ENT PROCEDURES / SURGERIES
Ear Microsurgery
Performed with an operating microscope to enable the surgeon to view the very small structures of the ear. … Laser surgery reduces the amount of trauma due to vibration, enhances coagulation, and enables surgeons to access hard to reach places in the middle ear.
Tympanoplasty
Tympanoplasty is microsurgery ― surgery using a microscope or endoscope― to fix holes in the eardrum that do not heal on their own. The eardrum, also called the tympanic membrane, enables a person to hear by vibrating in reaction to sound.
Mastoidectomy
Mastoidectomy is a surgical procedure of the temporal bone that opens postauricular air cells by removing the thin bony partitions between them. Each mastoidectomy is unique because of the variable pneumatization patterns of the temporal bone.
Myringotomy and Grommet
A myringotomy is a small cut which is made in the eardrum. Tiny tubes called grommets are then inserted into these cuts. The main function of a grommet is to act as a ventilation tube – the grommet lets air pass from the ear tube through the eardrum and into the middle ear.
Ossicular Reconstruction
Ossicular chain reconstruction can improve conductive hearing. It is also called middle ear bone surgery. It can be done to replace a damaged malleus or incus bone. During surgery, you will be given local anesthesia with sedation.
Stapedectomy
Stapedectomy is a surgical procedure in which the stapes bone is removed from the middle ear and replaced with a prosthesis. If the stapes footplate is fixed in position, rather than being normally mobile, the result is a conductive hearing loss.
